Canoe down a river

Season:Winter
Duration:Half Day
Activity:Canoeing

Canoeing down a river is rather an expert thing to do! We suggest trying to canoe on a lake first, just to get the hang of it if you haven't done much canoeing before.

You'll need to contact one of the many boating centres and marinas that are based in the Lakes (depending where you'd like to go) for a professional to teach you the techniques needed and to guide you on your canoeing adventure! A great place to try first, is heading to Derwent Water where the River Derwent makes it way to Cockermouth. The marinas located there will have everything you need to safely do this activity.

Bear in mind that canoeing in rivers is only permitted at certain times of the year, due to fishing and water levels (you will want to go just after a few days of heavy rainfall). Usually this is between October and March - but check with the boating centre you choose to canoe with.
