Find some frogspawn

Season:Spring
Duration:Half Day
Activity:For kids - things to do before you're 11¾

Sizergh Castle garden ponds have lots of web-footed residents so why not visit to go looking for their spawn. Frogs and toads lay their eggs in Spring between February and April (sometimes as early as January), so you won't find any during any other season.

Top tip: You can tell the difference between frog and toad spawn by looking at the shape the spawn are laid in. Frogspawn is usually found in large clumps in the shallow water of a pond whereas toad spawn is found in long chains around the water plants in the deeper water part of the pond.
