Visit an island in the Lakes

Season:Any
Duration:Full Day
Activity:For kids - things to do before you're 11¾

A few times a year, the tenants of Derwent Isle House in the middle of Derwentwater open up the island to visitors. Check the events section of our website for the latest trip.

Otherwise why not take a rowing boat, kayaks or canoes and explore Derwent Water and its charming islands. There are a few marinas around the lake that provide yachts and boats you can hire as well as all the gear such as wetsuits. Rowing boats can be hired from the East side of Derwent Water at the Keswick Launch. Don't forget to take a picnic and a camera too.

Further Information

The four islands dotted on Derwent Water are known as St Herbet's Island, Derwent Island, Lord's Island, and Rampsholme Island. Click for more information about the Derwent Water islands and their interesting names.
